BPEC Gas Meter Foundation MLP – 2024 update
Introduction
This update is in response to a new IGEM/IG/1 training specification (supplement 3) being published. This came into effect on 1/01/24 and all new starters from this date will be required to meet the new requirements.
Existing Learners
Learners who are already on programme can continue on that programme. However, all learners must be complete within two years.
The 2024 version contains a simpler way of recording work experience compared to the previous version. Centres can utilise the work experience record from the new version in the old version. A copy of the record is in the portfolio folder.
Registration
There is now a requirement for Recognisers of Training (ROT) such as BPEC to hold a list of learners on programme.
Going forward, therefore, the following process will be adopted.
- Place your order for portfolios as normal
- Complete the spreadsheet (see registration folder) with the learner’s details and submit to services@bpec.org.uk
- When BPEC have reconciled the order with the spreadsheet the portfolios will be despatched
Learner application form
A new application and result form has been created and that is in registration folder. The application should be completed for all learners starting on or after 01/01/24.
Minimum programme delivery
Supplement 3 stipulates the programme cannot be delivered in less than 4 months.
Maximum programme delivery
Supplement 3 suggests the programme should be delivered in 2 years or less, this has been written into the portfolio. Some exceptions do apply to this, and BPEC will consider reasonable adjustments when appropriate. Centres may wish to clarify this to learners in their own agreements.
Main changes
The updated supplement 3 has clarified some issues, including what is to be completed on-site and what in centre and what pathways can be undertaken. There has been the removal of some additional areas such as ICPN1, CMET1 & 2, however these have been included in the BPEC Gas Meter Foundation on consultation with E&Uskills. The main reason these were removed was the lack of candidates undertaking them.
This has resulted in this version containing more off-site assessments and a reduction in on-site evidence where applicable, Section 5a has been amended accordingly.
There is a reduction in core hours to 196. This means overall, if following one of the pathways there will be additional hours required (see table below)
Pathways / Units | Code | Minimum Guided learning Hours (GLH) |
Domestic Gas Meters and Regulators (LP & MP) | MET1/REGT1 | 7 |
Non-Domestic Diaphragm Gas Meters | MET4 | 7 |
Non-Domestic Tightness Testing and Purging to IGEM/UP/1A | TPCP1a | 20 |
Non-Domestic Tightness Testing and Purging to IGEM/UP/1 | TPCP1 | 26 |
Non-Domestic Pipework | ICPN1 | 14 |
Non-Domestic Low Pressure RPD Gas Meters | CMET1 | 7 |
Non-Domestic Medium Pressure RD and Turbine Gas Meters | CMET2 | 7 |
