Legionella Responsibilities Update

On the 25th November 2013 the HSE published the revised ACoP L8 and Technical Guidance HSG 274 – a lot has changed in legionella management and control that you should know.

Are you aware, for example, that employers, those in control of premises and those with health and safety responsibilities for others have a legal duty to comply with the revised ACoP?

Where residents, tenants, guests and customers could be exposed to legionella, the risks must be properly assessed and control measures implemented by landlords or those who are responsible for the water systems in premises. They can carry out a risk assessment themselves if they are competent, or employ somebody who is, such as a plumbing and heating engineer.

To ensure you are able to provide this essential service you can attend a BPEC course that has been fully updated to comply with the revised ACoP. There are approved centres across the UK delivering the Legionella course, please visit the BPEC website to find your local centre.
