Assessment Information | Our Commercial Gas Foundation Heating and Catering courses are designed for ACS Category 2 and 3 candidates wanting to enter the gas industry. |
Pre-requisites | Category 2 trainees will hold a recognised qualification in the mechanical services engineering sector (e.g. plumbing) but lack gas training and experience, while Category 3 applicants are new to the gas industry and will need more intense training. |
Further Information | Assessments normally consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations. The course requires 33 days in a college environment (with the schedule decided by the training provider) plus ‘on the job’ training with candidates providing work-based evidence under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered installer. Your Commercial Gas Foundation Certificate will allow you to undertake the relevant ACS gas assessments, providing entry at category 2. |
Expiry Information | No expiry date is applied. (But there is an expiry for the ACS gas assessments which is five years). |
Useful Information | On completion of the training, portfolio and successful recommendation, candidates are issued with a BPEC Commercial Gas Foundation Certificate for either Commercial Heating or Catering. Upon receipt of the Commercial Gas Foundation certificate candidates can then apply to undertake the relevant ACS assessments. |
Training Materials | The Commercial Catering Gas Foundation Candidate Portfolio and The Commercial Heating Gas Foundation Portfolio: These allow candidates to record all the “on-the-job” and “off-the-job” training they undertake as evidence of the necessary knowledge and experience to undertake the ACS assessments. |
