Assessment Information | BPEC has developed this course with the aim of providing electricians with the skills and knowledge required to install small scale photovoltaic (PV) systems. The course has been structured to meet the requirements of the National Occupational Standards and is recognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). |
Pre-requisites | Trainees should hold a formal craft qualification e.g. N/SVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) and BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification. Or Equivalent historical qualifications (as found in EAS Table 4B/4C) Electrotechnical Assessment Specification Guide August 2023 Or ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card Stand-alone technical certificates/vocationally related qualifications (VRQ) (non-competency based) are NOT acceptable |
Further Information | Assessments normally consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations. Recognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). |
Expiry Information | Certificates are normally valid for 5 years. |
Useful Information | Such a course is a requirement of the Minimum Technical Competency document for PV installers and is recognised by the MCS operators as evidence of suitable training. This 3 day course will enable candidates to select the most appropriate solar Photovoltaic system for a property to meet the client’s needs and to commission and handover the system. It will also provide an understanding of all the legal issues surrounding the installation of these systems and guidance on completion and submission of all the appropriate notifications. |
