Student Engagement Trial – Can you help?

On behalf of Capita and the Health and Safety Executive, Talan are delivering a student engagement trial designed to support learners as they progress toward joining the Gas Safe Register. The aim of this trial is to strengthen learners’ understanding of gas safety standards, improve visibility of the Gas Safe Register, and support trainees to feel confident and prepared for their professional career.

A summary of the interventions which will be available during the trial is provided below:

1. Practical business advice to support graduating students’career planning
2. Informational videos to explain compliance requirements for registration
3. Careers maps to explain training pathways toward registration
4. Meet and greet with a local inspector to support understanding and communication between inspectors and trainees
5. Access to a technical helpline for trainees to seek professional guidance

Talan are looking to engage as many students as possible with all interventions free to access via the GSR website to any student who signs up. To measure the impact of each intervention, students will be asked to fill in short surveys at different intervals throughout the trial. These have been designed to be short and concise to support student feedback.

Training providers who are interested in supporting the trial can do so by:

• Sharing Talan drafted communications with students to support their awareness of the trial, its purpose and how they can engage with the interventions.
• Sharing the survey to enable the collection of data on the impact of the interventions.

To support involvement, Talan will provide pre-prepared communications with training providers to share with students. These can be shared via email, learner portals, and/or in-person.  

The goal is to support students to overcome the challenges they face in beginning a career in gas safety and support their professional development in the sector.
