WorldSkills UK have announced that they will not be running their 2020 national skills competition events, which include the SkillPLUMB competition and the national finals.
WorldSkills UK are the organisation that regulates and quality assures the skills competitions – further information and FAQs have been compiled by WorldSkills UK and these can be accessed here, and will be regularly updated.
SkillPLUMB is an annual skills competition designed to promote standards and skills across the plumbing industry, developing competence into excellence. The competition sees talented young plumbers test their expertise on a series of challenging practical tests in a bid to be named the SkillPLUMB UK champion.
SkillPLUMB can bring invaluable benefits to students, colleges and employers. Competitors can gain recognition for exceptional skills, injecting dynamism and excitement into training. Employers can enhance their business reputation and improve the skills of their workforce.

How to enter
Registration for SkillPLUMB 2020 closed on 5 May 2020.
The competition is open to students studying plumbing with a provider at L2/L3. To help assist colleges, training providers and employers in selecting their most suitable plumbing apprentice to enter, we have developed the following materials which include two different in-house competitions:
- Talent Spotting Checklist (to help identify your best candidates)
- In-house Competition (ready-made competition to deliver in-house)
- In-house Competition 2020 (ready-made competition to deliver in-house)
- Training to Succeed (training manual to help competitors prepare)
2020 SkillPLUMB Regional Heats
All events that were scheduled from April 2020 to June 2020 have been postponed further to Government advice on coronavirus (Covid-19).
The six SkillPLUMB regional heats (South of England, North of England, Midlands, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland) were due to take place in April, May and June, and have therefore been postponed.
The UK final
The eight highest scoring competitors from the heats are invited to take part in the UK final at WorldSkills UK LIVE, the nation’s largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event.
Unfortunately WorldSkills UK LIVE 2020 (which was due to be held at the NEC Birmingham 19-21 November 2020) has been postponed. WorldSkills UK LIVE will return to the NEC in November 2021.
All of the events above are run in partnership with SkillELECTRIC and SkillBUILD (CITB). The Scottish and Northern Ireland heats are organised in collaboration with our competition partners SNIPEF and CITB NI.
