BPEC becomes a Lighthouse Charity corporate supporter

BPEC has become a corporate supporter of the Lighthouse Charity, an organisation that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.

Established for nearly 70 years, the Lighthouse Charity is renowned across the construction industry for its comprehensive package of assistance for those in need. Its 24/7 confidential helpline and self-support app is available to workers including subcontractors, agency workers and allied trades. In the last year the charity has supported over 4400 families via the helpline and provided financial assistance to nearly 3000 families.

They also offer free construction-focused training programmes, ranging from hour long interactive wellbeing classes through to Mental Health First Aider courses. In total, across all its platforms of support, the Lighthouse Charity has provided nearly £4 million of charitable support to the industry over the last year.

BPEC was moved to support the charity in recognition of the significant challenges faced by construction workers and negative impact this can have.

“Every year there are over 82,000 reported cases of work-related illnesses attributed to working in construction and each day in the UK and Ireland, two construction workers take their own life. The plumbing industry is included in these statistics and it’s vital that plumbers take care of themselves and look out for colleagues who may be struggling,” said Neil Collishaw, CEO of BPEC.

Our trustees believe that the mental wellbeing of the plumbing workforce is of upmost importance and we are pleased to support the Lighthouse Charity’s fantastic work to support construction workers and their families.”
