BPEC Extends Support for Lighthouse Charity

BPEC has announced it will continue its corporate support for the Lighthouse Charity for a further year, reinforcing its commitment to the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families.

The Lighthouse Charity, established almost 70 years ago, is widely respected across the construction sector for the breadth and impact of its support services. Its 24/7 confidential helpline and self-support app are available to all workers, including subcontractors, agency staff and allied trades. In 2024 alone, the charity has supported 5,695 families and delivered 5,761counselling sessions.

Beyond crisis response, the Lighthouse Charity also invests heavily in prevention. It delivers a range of free, construction-focused training programmes, from short interactive wellbeing sessions through to accredited Mental Health First Aider courses. In total, across all its initiatives, the charity provided over £5 million of charitable support to the construction industry last year.

BPEC’s decision to extend its support was driven by the scale of the challenges facing the sector and the impact these issues can have on workers’ lives.

“Each year, more than 82,000 people in construction report work-related illnesses, and tragically, two workers lose their lives to suicide every single day across the UK and Ireland. The plumbing trade is not immune to these figures, which is why it’s so important for plumbers to look after their own wellbeing and to keep an eye out for colleagues who may be struggling,” said Neil Collishaw, CEO of BPEC.

“Our trustees are clear that supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the plumbing workforce is a top priority. Extending our backing for the Lighthouse Charity reflects our commitment to the incredible work they do in helping construction workers and their families through some of life’s toughest challenges.”

By extending its support, BPEC reaffirms its belief that the wellbeing of plumbing and construction professionals is central to building a stronger, healthier industry.
