What is the FESS Extension of Scope (EOS)

The Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Extension of Scope (FESS EOS) is an industry and JIB/ECS approved assessment for candidates who have achieved the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.1) Apprenticeship Standard within the last 12 months who can demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental requirements of the pathway that was not assessed during the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.1) Apprenticeship Standard.

Who can complete the FESS EOS?

The assessment is designed only for candidates who already have achieved the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.1) Apprenticeship Standard within the last 12 months and were practically assessed in either the Fire or Security pathway and can demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental requirements of the pathway that was not assessed during the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.1) Apprenticeship Standard and who wish to demonstrate competency and professionalism and obtain an industry recognised competency card.

Please note, this assessment is not applicable to candidates who have previously achieved the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.0) Apprenticeship standard.

What JIB ECS gold cards can a candidate obtain after completing the FESS EEOS?

The BPEC Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Extension of Scope is mapped directly into the Fire Emergency and Security Systems Apprenticeship and therefore holders of the BPEC Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Extension of Scope Certificate are entitled to apply for a full JIB/ECS technician gold card, or relevant gold card competencies where limited scope has been achieved.

What Pre-requisites are required to enrol onto the FESS EOS?

Candidates must be able to evidence the achievement of the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.1) Apprenticeship Standard End-point Assessment. This must be in the form of an apprenticeship achievement certificate. Candidates must be registered within 12 months of the issue date of the apprenticeship certificate.

Furthermore, candidates must be able to evidence which pathway practical assessment (e.g. fire systems or security systems) was completed as part of the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician (version 1.1) Apprenticeship Standard End-point Assessment.

Do I need to have obtained a FESS operative card before completing the FESS EOS?

No, this is not a mandatory requirement.

How do I find out where a centre is to enrol onto the FESS EOS?

Please look at the find a centre section of the BPEC website to find centre approved for the FESS EOS.

How long does the FESS EWA certificate last for?

There is no timeframe on this FESS EOS certificate, candidates achieving this will hold it for a lifetime.

How long does it take to complete the FESS EOS?

Candidates wishing to complete the FESS EOS, once enrolled at a centre will have 12 months to complete the assessment from the initial date of registration with BPEC. The assessment is designed to be completed once the candidate supporting evidence folder is achieved and should take no more than one day in a BPEC approved centre to achieve.
