First Apprentices Complete Assessments at BPEC’s New FESS Centre

On 6 October 2025, apprentices on the Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) standard began their End-Point Assessment at BPEC’s new purpose-built facility in Derby, a significant step forward in making high-quality EPA more accessible across the Midlands.

The centre’s location offers a real advantage for employers and training providers both north and south of the region. Sitting at the heart of the Midlands, Derby provides an easy-to-reach hub for apprentices travelling from Sheffield and Leeds, as well as from Birmingham, Coventry, and beyond.

Kev Clark, BPEC’s Head of Technical Operations, commented:

“Since opening the specialised FESS assessment bays earlier this year, we’ve moved from ‘ready to open’ to fully operational. The first cohort started the assessment on 6 October, marking the beginning of delivery at the centre. With dedicated facilities, industry-aligned assessment routes, and a central Midlands location, we are now ideally placed to support the apprenticeship market for both fire and security technician standards. Our focus is on reducing logistical challenges for employers while ensuring apprentices demonstrate the competence and confidence the industry requires.”

Employers and training providers with apprentices on version 1.0 or version 1.1 of the FESS standard — fire or security — are encouraged to get in touch to arrange their assessment. Contact epa@bpec.org.uk to secure a smooth, seamless EPA service with BPEC.
