Chief Executive Officer
Neil has over 30 years’ experience within the building services engineering (BSE) sector. Neil started as an apprentice, which soon led to him running a successful plumbing and heating business. Neil has held senior roles in Further Education, managing a large building services department, and also worked as a Senior Manager for SummitSkills, a Sector Skills Council for the BSE sector.
Neil became BPEC CEO in January 2019. Prior to this, since joining BPEC in 2014, Neil held a variety of other senior positions at BPEC which included Deputy CEO, Head of Innovation & Development and Head of the BPEC Charity.
Outside of work, Neil enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, son-in-law and grandson. Neil is a keen sportsman; playing tennis for a local club and golfing occasionally. His friends describe him as a very competitive person, however he fervently disputes this claim!
Head of Operations and Development
Matt has worked in the plumbing industry since 1991, with almost 15 years’ experience in education, qualifications and assessment. Matt’s first 5 years in education were working in Further Education, where he developed as a Grade 1 Tutor, becoming a Subject Learning Coach and Mentor after attaining his teaching, assessing and verification qualifications. Matt then moved on to work in the private education sector as Director of Learning for a multi-site training organisation, specialising in Construction and Building Services where he was responsible for the quality of teaching and learning for all programmes as well as setting the strategy of the organisation.
Matt joined BPEC as a Development Manager in October 2015, and then planned and managed the development and implementation of the BPEC End-point Assessment Organisation.
In January 2019, Matt took a new role at BPEC as Head of Operations and Development.
Matt is a season ticket holder at Rotherham United and an avid stand-up comedy fan; he assures us that these activities are completely unrelated! His favourite quote is attributed to Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t… You’re right”.
Head of Finance and Business Services
Susannah has worked in the finance sector for 30 years, 15 years of which was spent in the public sector, where she has gained experience managing budgets and provided support to three major departments.
Susannah joined BPEC in May 2023 as the Head of Finance and Business Services where she is enjoying the challenge of working in the private sector; managing the Finance, IT, HR, and facilities team at BPEC .
Susannah enjoys going to the gym and loves running. Her goal is to run 10k a week. She also enjoys baking in her spare time, listening to music, going on walks and spending time with her family.
Business Area Manager (Certification Body and Services - Training & Publications)
Mally looks after BPEC’s publications and training courses and manages the Certification Body (CB). On technical or compliance issues relating to training courses, Mally will be able to offer advice and guidance relating to managed learning programmes, training manuals and requests for new products when Dave Massey is unavailable.
For the CB on compliance issues, Mally can offer advice and guidance in this area when Rob Barker is unavailable, while Rob will offer technical advice and guidance on ACS, OFTEC and other CB related products and services.
Mally has over 35 years’ industry experience, with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Education together with a wealth of transferable skills gained over the years.
Mally started out as a time served plumber and heating engineer, working in both domestic and commercial environments before moving into contracting with a large company as a pipefitter/welder working on large installations across the country. Mally then moved to work for his Local Authority as a Supervisor running gas and plumbing contracts, before moving into education for nine years at Grimsby Institute working in a number of roles as a lecturer, trainer, assessor, internal verifier and Gas Centre Manager.
Mally joined BPEC in January 2012 as Training Manager for BPEC Services – a role which subsequently developed, and Mally became Business Area Manager in 2019.
Mally enjoys worldwide travel, spending time with his family and grand-kids. Mally has recently discovered gin and now regularly enjoys the odd tipple or two!
Business Area Manager (Awarding Organistion and End-point Assessment Organisation)
Kev oversees the Awarding and End-point Assessment Organisations. On technical or compliance issues, Kev will support you with anything related to qualifications or end-point assessment when Garry Glover, Jon Bexon and Paul Wilson are unavailable.
Kev has worked in the Plumbing & Heating Industry since the age of 17, originally starting his career as an apprentice with the local authority and completing a four-year apprenticeship. During his apprenticeship Kev gained experience in Plumbing, Gas and H&V. To date Kev has over 22 years’ experience in the Plumbing & Heating Industry.
Kev achieved QTS and has the experience of working in both FE and private training provider environments. As well as Plumbing & Gas, Kev is qualified in Health & Safety, holds assessor, Lead Internal/external verifier qualifications and has worked with several Awarding Organisations.
Kev started working for BPEC in 2013 as Operations Manager for the Awarding Organisation, and in 2019 was successfully appointed as Business Area Manager.
Kev is a keen football fan and qualified coach, his favourite quote is closely linked to his “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard”
End-point Assessment Manager
Garry works for the End-point Assessment Organisation within BPEC, with a focus on managing end-point assessment and the development process. He can help out with enquiries relating to end-point assessment documentation, on-programme guidance and gateway evidencing. Likewise, if you want to feedback on end-point assessment Garry would love to hear from you.
Garry is a fully qualified plumber holding NVQ L3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Engineer qualification, he also holds gas competencies CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1, DAH1 and MET1.
Garry started teaching plumbing around 13 years ago working for MET-UK, a private plumbing and gas training company where he gained his assessor award.
In 2012 Garry became the main plumbing tutor at Full Circle Learning in Rotherham. Delivering L2 and L3 Plumbing qualifications to Morrison and Mears Group apprentices. Part of his time was spent working with Full Circle Learning’s parent company Route 1 Developments, this involved the development of the current BPEC L1/2/3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating qualifications. During 2015 Garry was involved with the development of a new plumbing and gas training and assessment facility at Rotherham United’s NYS for Mears Learning Ltd.
Garry continued to teach plumbing and gas at Mears Learning until joining BPEC during November of 2017 as the Development Manager for the Awarding Organisation. In January 2021, Garry moved to the End-point Assessment Organisation full time, appointed as the BPEC End-point Assessment Manager.
Away from work, Garry likes to spend time with his family watching the kids play golf and football……and occasionally for his sins also punishes himself around Wath Golf club …oh the joy when it’s going right!!!
Technical Manager
Experience
After leaving school at the age of 16, Dan began his career in plumbing as an Apprentice with a local company in Dorchester, Dorset and has over 22 years’ experience in the plumbing industry.
He attended Bournemouth & Poole College for 4 years and gained his Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing – Domestic Gas Option).
In 2008, Dan moved into Further Education and started as a Plumbing Lecturer. Dan has worked for several colleges, gaining his teaching, assessing and internal quality assurance qualifications along the way. He also achieved QTLLS status from his teaching qualification, while also becoming the Learning Manager for the Building Services department of a local college.

Interests
In his spare time Dan likes running and going to the gym. Living by the coast gives him the opportunity to enjoy his hobby of paddle boarding.
Technical Manager
Helen has 20+ years of experience in the plumbing and gas industry. She began her plumbing career at 19, and was awarded Apprentice of the Year at Lancaster and Morecambe College after gaining Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing) and Level 3 Advanced NVQ Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating. Helen worked in FE from 2014 and progressed to Training & Development Lead in Energy, Engineering and Construction, overseeing 240+ apprentices and getting her department ready for End-point Assessment.
In her spare time Helen enjoys building and most weekends you will find her onsite on her latest project. Helen lives on the edge of the Lake District and enjoys walking, water sports and open water swimming.
Operations Manager
Paul works for the Awarding and End-point Assessment Organisations, and works operationally. If you work for a college or training centre that wants advice and guidance on anything relating to compliance, like centre resource requirement advice, EQA arrangements or for advice on suspected or actual malpractice or maladministration, Paul will be able to offer support.
Paul began his plumbing career at the age of 16 after leaving school and starting as an apprentice with a local plumbing company in his home town of Chesterfield. He attended Chesterfield College for four years where he gained his Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing – Domestic Gas Option). Paul has achieved over 16 years in the plumbing industry to date.
In 2013, Paul made the decision to move into Further Education, and started as a Plumbing Lecturer at Chesterfield College. During his time there Paul successfully gained his teaching, assessing and verification qualifications whilst also becoming Career Pathway Leader for Plumbing.
Paul joined BPEC in February 2019 as a Technical Business Support Manager before taking on the role of Operations Manager in August 2019.
In his spare time Paul plays football for a local team, goes to the gym and is a season ticket holder at Derby County.
Development Manager
Jon works for the Certification Body (CB) and works in development. Jon is responsible for carrying out technical revisions when the annual update disk is issued to CBs. Jon can offer advice and guidance about all things ACS, OFTEC and other CB related products and services, and any questions relating to Certification Body documents and updates should be directed to Jon.
Jon has been in the Plumbing and Gas industry since 1992. Jon completed his NVQ2 and NVQ3 at Wilmorton College in Derby before working for a number of large companies as a plumber/gas engineer.
In 2003 Jon made the move into Further Education, starting his teaching career at Stephenson College in Coalville as a lecturer. Jon remained at Stephenson College for 16 years, working in a number of roles as a lecturer, trainer, assessor, internal verifier and manager, and worked in both the plumbing and gas departments within the college.
Jon joined BPEC in February 2019 as a Technical Support Business Manager within our Awarding Organisation before taking on the role of Development Manager within BPEC Certification (CB) in July 2021.
Outside of work, Jon’s interests are mountain biking, fishing and camping. Jon also loves a bit of karaoke, and can often be found behind the mic at weekends!
Business Development Manager
Angela works alongside the technical teams at BPEC supporting both existing and prospective centres and colleges as the Business Development Manager. Whether you are an existing BPEC centre or not, Angela is on hand to offer advice and guidance on how BPEC can partner with you to achieve successful results.
Angela has worked within an education environment since 2005, with almost 16 years in customer service, education and assessing. During this time Angela has had varying roles starting at Loughborough University as a student accommodation consultant and then progressing onto working in Further Education, where she developed as a Business Studies Lecturer and Assessor. During her time in FE, Angela also became the lead lecturer on standardising the Vehicle Appraisal Course for the National Association of Motor Auctions (NAMA).
Angela then progressed her career into management of the Training and Assessment Centre at Stephenson College where she was responsible for specialised courses in Gas, Plumbing, Renewables and Electrical courses and worked closely with BPEC. Angela led a team of 10 Lecturers, Assessors and Internal Verifiers, enabling quality provisions and exceptional customer service.
Angela started working for BPEC in June 2021 as Business Development Manager.
Angela enjoys the great outdoors, walking and cycling with her family and Dog. Angela loves all genres of music and cannot wait for Live Concerts to return. Her favourite quote is “don’t do unto others what you wouldn’t want done unto you”.
Technical Manager
David works for BPEC’s business area that develops and manages our publications and training courses. David will deal with technical and compliance issues related to Managed Learning Programmes and training manuals, and will be the person to speak to about requests for new products.
He has been involved in the plumbing industry since the age of 14, when he worked with his father during holidays, which then resulted in an apprenticeship. His experience covers both commercial and domestic plumbing systems, with his most memorable being a full install of a university materials research laboratory. David’s teaching career started in 2000, working in private training and FE teaching, plus assessing plumbing and renewables. He has also managed an Underfloor Heating training centre, but says that joining BPEC is his proudest achievement yet.
David enjoys spending time with his family and friends, cooking and baking (and eating!). He also has an avid interest in all disciplines of engineering – learning how things work and are put together.
