Held at Chichester College on 12th May, the event brought together students from across the region to compete for a chance to be SkillPLUMB UK Champion.

Owen, 20, was joined by Ryan Holden, of East Kent College and Broadstairs Plumbing & Heating, in second place and Rhys Moore of Barking & Dagenham College and Econogas in third place.

The highest scoring competitors from all heats around the UK will be invited to the UK SkillPLUMB final, taking place the WorldSkills UK Skills Show in November, at the Birmingham NEC.

Owen said of his win: “I thought we had all done a great job so wasn’t sure how the results would turn out. I’m so pleased to have won, it’s a great achievement. My college and employer have also been a great support, so hopefully I will make it to the next stage and get a chance to compete again nationally.”

The English Midlands heat will be the next event to take place on 2nd June at South & City Birmingham College. SkillPLUMB has The Copper Initiative as its premier sponsor and is organised by BPEC.
